Explore a National Park that's worth a closer inspection, meander through spectacular gardens, learn about timber heritage and discover forests with magnificient waterfalls. There is a multitude of places to see and things to enjoy. Below we have some suggested Itineraries.

3 nights / 4 days itinerary

Day 1 Burnie to Stanley

  • Stop at Hellyers Road Distillery, Australia's largest for single malt whisky.
  • Trek the coastline of Rocky Cape National Park where sea caves abound, gnarled banksias grow in groves and where you can learn about the Aboriginal history of the area.
  • Overnight Stanley.

Day 2 Stanley

  • Climb the Nut. This solidified lava lake is visible from 30km away or take the easy option of a chairlift to the top.
  • Visit Highfield Historic Site, the original home of the Van Dieman's Land Company headquarters.
  • Visit the Stanley Seaquarium and learn about the unique Tasmanian sea life that can be found in the waters off Stanley.
  • Overnight Stanley.

Day 3 Stanley to Arthur River

  • Ride a twisting, 110-metre slide to the bottom of Dismal Swamp, a mysterious sinkhole at Tarkine Forest Adventures.
  • Fly over the sheer cliffs of Cape Grim and the offshore islands which are constantly pounded by giant seas.
  • Pick up a fresh crayfish or enjoy a classic fish ‘n’ chips picnic.
  • Overnight Stanley or Smithton.

Day 4

  • Make your way back along the scenic coast to your point of departure.

4 nights / 5 days itinerary

Day 1 Devonport to Stanley

  • Tantalise your taste buds. Visit the house of Anvers in Latrobe and enjoy fine couverture chocolates and truffles.
  • Shape your own handmade paper from exotic fibres at the Maker's Workshop in Burnie.
  • Explore the region's timber heritage at Water Wheel Creek where Tasmania's only working timber tramway is showcased.
  • Overnight Stanley

Day 2 Stanley to Smithton

  • Take a boat trip to see fur seals at rest and play.
  • Explore cool temperate rainforest in the Tarkine and find out about its human history.
  • Take time out to explore six acres of landscaped gardens at the seasonal Allendale Gardens.
  • Overnight Smithton

Day 3 Smithton

  • Head off the beaten track on a personalised 4WD tour.
  • Overnight Smithton

Day 4 Smithton to Arthur River

  • Visit the Edge of the World at Arthur River.
  • Spot sea eagles and kingfishers on a cruise of the Arthur River.
  • Surf the big Southern Ocean swell at Marrawah.
  • Get up close to a Tasmanian Devil in the wild.
  • Overnight Arthur River.

Day 5

  • Visit the most extensive range of crafted Huon Pine in the world.
  • Make your way back to your point of departure.
